Yesterday I received three robo calls in a three-hour period. First up, Rick Santorum. He ranted for a few minutes about the outrages of the Obama administration. He brought up the IRS, NSA and Benghazi. My wife and I put it on speaker phone and had a good laugh. Cwazy Wepublicans! It being a slow day, I waited for the call to go live so I could chat up the expected fundraiser. But we never got a live person. Instead, we were told we could press one to support Santorum in his effort to impeach Obama. After that messageplayed three times, we were offered the choice of pressing two, to opt out of future calls of this nature. We punched two and received a very sincere and apologetic prerecorded response assuring us such calls would never again haunt our home.
An hour later another 800 call arrived. This time I heard the recorded, but still raspy and insistent voice of non other than Ann Coulter. Typically, I don't talk back to recordings. And never, never do I say some of the things I said yesterday. But hey, it was Ann Coulter on a 1-800 call. She too, asked that I press one to support her to help save America from Obama, but this time there was no option two. Instead, I were given a number to call if I wished to opt out. That number was one digit short of a real telephone number. That seemed inherently funny - a missing digit. (Ann Coulter? Meet Sigmund Freud.) It reminded me of Mitt Romney's voter tabulation software failing on election night.
Perhaps because we were unable to opt out due to missing a digit, we received yet a third call, this one from Newt Gingrich. Newt's no Ann Coulter, and he wasn't saying anything that Rick and Ann hadn't covered already, so I hung up before I learned how to stop future calls.
The takeaways here are: 1. The 2014 elections are underway. 2. Never register as an independent.
