Hi! I'm Adam. Since 2006, I've been a featured front-page writer for this site on legal issues, and recently celebrated my 10th year and (gulp) 60,000th comment on this site. Most of my writing for the front page deals with the Supreme Court and other major court doings, campaign finance, and voting rights/election law issues. Relatedly, as most of you know, I am legal counsel to the site, where my role is to enable Markos and the entire Daily Kos team (and by extension, all of you) to engage in the kind of meaningful speech and activism they want, which can involve matters like campaign finance law,
the site's terms and conditions, and the occasional
frivolous complaint.
Since 2008, I also have been honored to have the opportunity to serve as chairman of the board of directors of Netroots Nation (formerly Yearly Kos), where my role is to supervise and provide guidance to our amazing staff in putting on our annual national conference as well as events and activism all year round. On that, two immediate notes:
- Our panel submission process recently opened, with a deadline of February 19, 2014. If you'd like to organize a panel, please feel free to ask me ... anything. I always want to ensure that the grassroots online activist/blogger community is well-represented in our agenda, and our staff will be happy to work with you on your submissions. (If you want to know what happens with your proposal after it's submitted, read this Nolan Treadway diary from 2012.
- If you haven't yet registered for Detroit this summer, why not do it today?
In my day job, I'm a
lawyer in solo practice in Philadelphia, where I focus on political law compliance for candidates, businesses, and other entities, focusing on the areas of campaign finance and election law, lobbying disclosure, the law of nonprofits, and pay-to-play and other ethics laws. As I always say in my profile, unless I'm
your lawyer, I can't give you legal advice about your own situation, but am happy to talk generally about the law to the extent I know what I'm talking about.
Okay, I'm here. Ask me anything.
